AFC Portchester 3 Blackfield and Langley 0
AFC Portchester started life under interim manager Marty Wallace in impressive style as they recorded a 3-0 win against Blackfield.
The Royals rode their luck in the first half but found themselves 3-0 up by half time and they didn’t look like surrendering that lead during the second half.
The visitors made a quick start to the game and they had their first chance after only two minutes. Ali Zintany got into the box and had a shot half blocked and River Smith picked up the rebound but his shot was blocked by keeper Cameron Scott.
Two minutes later Smith got clear down the left, took the ball past Henry Lander but hit his shot narrowly wide.
Portchester scored with their first chance of the game on six minutes when the ball was worked forward down the left and a pass put Oscar Johnston through on goal and as keeper Joe Besant advanced off his line the Royals’ striker flicked the ball over him and into the net.
The home side almost doubled their lead seven minutes later when Oscar Johnston worked the ball along the edge of the box into the path of Ellis Martin, who let fly with a shot which flashed narrowly wide.
Blackfield went close to equalising on 19 minutes when the ball was played into the feet of Smith but Lander blocked his attempted shot. The ball then ran back to Smith and his shot was cleared off the line by Rob Evans.
Two minutes later Connal Morrison tried to curl a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box and just as it looked like it was heading in, Scott leapt up to tip the ball over the crossbar.
Portchester got their second goal on 34 minutes when Martin was brought down inside the box and Steve Ramsey rolled his penalty into the bottom corner, sending Besant diving the wrong way.
Things got even better for the Royals when they made it 3-0 two minutes before half time. The home side attacked down the right and when the ball was flicked on it found Lee Wort, who took it forward into the box before dispatching a low shot past Besant at his near post.
The visitors looked to find a way back in the second half and on 56 minutes Cassius Newton fired his free kick from 25 yards out straight at Scott. At the other end, substitute Harvey Clark almost scored Portchester’s fourth goal when his shot from the edge of the penalty area had to be pushed away by Besant.
Clark had another chance on 69 minutes when if he had applied any touch to the ball it would have gone in from close range and Joe Johnson then set Wort up with a chance but he dragged his shot wide.
Blackfield’s chances weren’t helped when they were reduced to ten men but they almost snatched a consolation goal on the full time whistle when Luke Bennett hit a low shot towards goal and Scott had to dive to his left to keep the ball out.
