Bournemouth 0 AFC Portchester 3
AFC Portchester soon swept away any cobwebs brought on by the second Covid-19 lockdown by recording a comfortable victory at Bournemouth.
In their first game back after the enforced break, and on a bitterly cold night in Dorset, Lee Wort was the Royals’ hat-trick hero when he netted all of their goals.
The visitors’ first chance came on 15 minutes when Ellis Martin crossed to the near post and Callum Laycock’s downward header went just wide.
On 24 minutes Portchester keeper Brad Snelling was called into action when the home side broke into the penalty area and he got down low to his right to push a shot away.
The Royals took the lead on 31 minutes when they broke quickly from midfield and after riding a couple of challenges, Oscar Johnston slipped a pass inside to Wort who beat the keeper with a shot at his near post.
Portchester’s second goal arrived seven minutes later when Wort picked up the ball on the left, cut inside along the edge of the penalty area and then hit a low shot which went under the keeper and into the net.
At the start of the second half Wort and Steve Ramsey both put half chances wide of the target and on the hour mark a ball over the top of the home defence by Ramsey put Laycock clear but he dragged his shot wide.
Snelling then had to get down quickly to smother a Bournemouth shot and Laycock’s touch let him down as he got clear inside the box. He then had another chance after playing a quick one-two with Joe Johnson but he put his shot wide of the near post.
With a minute remaining Johnston headed narrowly wide from Johnson’s cross but on 90 minutes a ball over the home defence sent Wort racing clear and he dispatched his low shot past the keeper to complete his hat-trick.
