AFC Portchester have revealed their new-look home kit for the 2019-20 season, and its support for an important military charity.
The home shirt will this season include the logo of the Lee Rigby Foundation - and it will be worn for the first time by the club in this afternoon’s league opener against Shaftesbury.
The charity was founded by Lyn Rigby and her husband Ian after the loss of their son, Fusilier Lee Rigby - who was killed near his barracks in London in May 2013.
The charity was set up following the family’s own experiences when Lee died as they found support was lacking for military personnel and their families when dealing with bereavement or loss.
The foundation’s aim has been to set up the facilities needed to support the services family during such difficult times.
The Mission Statement of the Lee Rigby Foundation is: “To support persons suffering from bereavement or loss. Relieving mental and physical distress and saving lives through contact, support and holistic alternative care by providing retreat and respite centres, and promoting activities proven to benefit health.”
AFC Portchester chairman Paul Kelly hopes that the foundation’s logo being worn on this season’s kit will help to raise the profile of their work and bring them more support.
He said: “We are proud to be able to use the Lee Rigby Foundation logo on this season’s new kit.
“This will hopefully bring more awareness to the charity amongst the football family.
“The foundation is very close to us all at AFC Portchester and we are very honoured to play hosts to the annual charity match between Glasgow Rangers Legends and Pompey Legends, raising much needed funds for our veteran service men and women.
“Please get behind the charity and show your support.”
