AFC Portchester are urging people to ‘use the forks’ to help get their derby game with Horndean on.
It’s the weekend when new Star Wars film The Rise of Skywalker opens at the cinemas, and the Royals could do with the help of some Jedi Knights - who could ‘use the force’ to clear the water from the pitch at the Crest Finance Stadium.
The heavy persistent rain has swamped the playing surface in recent days and the club are keen to do all they can to get the game against Horndean on this Saturday as the first team haven’t had a home game since November 6.
Club officials are asking people to meet at the club at 10am on Saturday morning to help try and get the pitch into a position where the Sydenham Wessex League Premier Division match can go ahead.
Anyone who can lend a helping hand during the morning is asked to bring a garden fork with them to help with the work on the pitch.
The club are doing all they can to get the game on. Ground staff are covering the wettest areas to try and keep the forecast heavy rain off of them between now and kick-off.
But an army of helpers getting to the club this Saturday morning is going to be crucial to the chances of the local derby going ahead.
If you can help, simply turn up at the club at 10am - all help will be much appreciated. Please wear clothing and football boots or sturdy shoes which can cope with the damp conditions.
