There will be plenty of former Pompey stars taking part in this year’s Lee Rigby Memorial Cup at AFC Portchester.
Details of the Pompey Charity Squad are starting to emerge as the countdown continues to the event being held at the Crest Finance Stadium - home of Sydenhams Wessex League side AFC Portchester - on Saturday, May 23.
The popular charity match will be played between the Lee Rigby ‘Rangers Select’ and Pompey Charity squads on the day.
The Pompey Charity Squad already includes one of Portsmouth’s FA Cup winners and the man who fired the Blues to the Premier League.
Hermann Hreidarsson - who helped Pompey to lift the FA Cup in 2008 - will be taking part in the event, as will Svetoslav Todorov, who netted 26 goals in the 2002-03 season when Portsmouth won the Championship and promotion to English football’s top flight.
The man Pompey fans simply know as ‘Legend’ will also be taking part in the event - goalkeeper Alan Knight made 801 appearances for Pompey in his playing days with the club.
And who can forget David Norris - who famously scored an injury time equaliser for Pompey at Southampton in April 2012, a goal which has gone down in Fratton folklore.
The event will be raising money for the Lee Rigby Foundation, which works to provide a support network for bereaved military families, veterans families and serving military families through respite therapy in whatever form works for those affected.
This year’s Lee Rigby Memorial Cup is shaping up into quite an event as the Lee Rigby ‘Rangers Select’ squad boasts plenty of famous names from not just Rangers’ past but football in general.
Mark Hateley, Keith Gillespie, Roy Carroll and Mark Walters are among the names who will be familiar not only to just Rangers supporters.
Below are the squad lists for the two teams with the players announced so far.
