The community’s “brilliant” response to AFC Portchester’s Covid-19 Mutual Support Group has been praised.
Organisers of the group, which aims to support vulnerable people during the coronavirus crisis, have been inundated with offers of support from members of the public who are willing to make deliveries of essential items and help with any errands or problems people in quarantine or self isolating may have.
The first deliveries of food items and other goods have also taken place in the last few days to vulnerable people in the community who needed help.
AFC Portchester chairman Paul Kelly said: “The response we have had since setting up the group has been brilliant.
“We have had so many people coming forward to offer their help, which has been amazing.
“People are also donating food and other items to our cause as well and we have had a number of financial contributions which will be used to help the project’s work.
“Portchester has always been a close knit community and the football club has always found that the public has rallied round with its support when we have needed it.
“This group is showing that our community spirit is still as strong as ever and people are more than willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it during these difficult times.
“I am so proud of the response people have displayed to what we are trying to do and I am proud that the club is among those leading the efforts to help the community of Portchester.”
