Since news of the passing of our former chairman and life president Steve Woods was announced, AFC Portchester has been overwhelmed with the thousands of condolence messages and tributes received for him.
As a result of this response from both the footballing community and the wider community of Portchester, the club can announce it will be opening the Crest Finance Stadium in Cranleigh Road, Portchester, each day this week so that his friends and colleagues can come and lay any tributes they wish to in his memory.
The gates to the stadium at Wicor Recreation Ground have already had shirts and flowers attached to them, with many moving messages about ‘Woodsy’.
The ground will now be open from 10am to 2pm every day this week (February 1-5) for anyone wanting to pay their respects to Steve.
Anyone wanting to lay flowers and any other items of tribute can do this in the main stand.
There will be stewards on site offering visitors directions and social distancing measures will be in place at all times.
