Final Score: Portchester Women 3 – 2 Winchester Flyers
From the first whistle, Portchester asserted their dominance, controlling possession and dictating the tempo. Winchester struggled to find rhythm as the home side played with confidence and composure.
The breakthrough came courtesy of a pinpoint ball from Gemma Hillier, lofted perfectly over the Flyers’ back line to debutant Sarah Butterworth, who coolly slotted home to make it 1–0.
Portchester doubled their lead soon after through relentless high pressing. Sophie Bell chipped a clever pass into the path of Millie Bradbury, whose finish—despite a slight slice—found its way past the keeper to give the hosts a deserved 2–0 lead at the break.
The second half saw a shift in momentum as Winchester came out fighting. Their persistence paid off with two quick goals, bringing the score level at 2–2 and setting up a tense finale.
With both sides pushing for a winner, the match became a frantic end-to-end battle. But it was Portchester who found the decisive moment. In the dying minutes, Mia Adaway held up play superbly in the final third before threading a perfect ball through to Betty Barron-Clark, who made no mistake with the finish.
The final whistle confirmed a 3–2 win for Portchester—an excellent team performance and the ideal start to the new season.
