A Royals armada is preparing to set sail across the Solent for one of the biggest games in the club’s history.
A win for AFC Portchester from their trip to Cowes Sports this Tuesday night will secure the Velocity Wessex League Premier Division title.
It would also bring promotion to Step 4 of the non-league pyramid system and confirm the club’s highest ever league position finish.
Seats on the club coach were snapped up almost as soon as they went on sale and Royals fans are packing into cars, minibuses and vans to make sure they are there to cheer on the team and witness what could be an historic and emotional evening for the club.
Such is the clamour to be at The Zilch Waste Stadium tomorrow evening, some fans are even taking their own boats across the Solent to make sure they are at the game.
Three points at Cowes Sports will guarantee top spot and the Wessex Premier Division title the club has craved since winning promotion to Step 5 in 2012.
However, anything less than a win for second placed AFC Stoneham from their game at Hamble Club on the same evening would also see the Royals crowned champions.
It promises to be some night for AFC Portchester’s supporters and manager Gav Spurway has described their backing home and away this season as “massive”.
He added: “We’re getting more and more fans through the gates, more coming to away games.
“Hopefully the more people we can get over there on Tuesday will turn it into a mini home game for us.
“But we are well aware Cowes is no easy place to go on a Tuesday night and I’m sure they won’t want us to beat them there.
“It’s going to be a difficult game but we will give it our all to try and get the three points.”
There are plenty of travel options for Royals fans looking to make the trip over the Solent for the game.
