Without doubt he is AFC Portchester’s greatest number one – and he has the stats to back it up.
Many goalkeepers have come before him and many more will come after him when his days with the Royals are completed, but the future keepers who come to the club are going to have to go a long way to surpass the achievements of Steven Mowthorpe.
Certainly the most decorated keeper in the club’s history to date and he has played a key, central role in helping to fill the trophy cabinet in the boardroom at The OnSite Group Stadium with silverware.
And he will always have legend status at the club for being part of the ‘quad squad’ who delivered an unprecedented four trophies in the hugely successful 2024-25 season.
His key stats after completing 200 appearances for AFC Portchester show why he is the club’s all-time greatest keeper.
He has the full set of trophies possible from Step 5 local level – Wessex Premier Division, Wessex League Cup, Portsmouth Senior Cup, Hampshire Senior Cup and Russell Cotes Cup. And two more trophies in the form of the Wessex League Charity Cup too.
A 69 per cent win rate and 38% clean sheet rate are phenomenal figures and truly reflect just how good a keeper he has been for the Royals.
There have been plenty of key saves along the way but two stick in the mind and they both had a huge impact on the club’s destiny.
One was the penalty save in the shoot-out to win the Hampshire Senior Cup in May 2024 and the other was against Andover New Street in January this year when his unbelievable save stopped us going 2-0 down in a key game.
Mowy is fully deserving of his club legend status.
